Mom – someone who sacrifices her body, sleep, eating a hot meal, social life, spending money on herself, peeing alone, patience, sanity and mental well-being for LOVE!
When I first became a mom, I sort of knew what to expect. My own mother had prepared me about the highs and lows of motherhood. Plus, a few friends had shared their horror stories of labour and colic and the terrible twos that were coming my way. But trust me, no amount of advice and help books prepare you for what’s coming your way … nothing!
You are in a constant struggle and agony wondering if you are doing the right thing and whether what you’re doing is enough. And that guilt replaces everything you do and that’s when you start abandoning yourself. So let’s talk about how new moms can take care of themselves and how you can make that happen
MOM SELF-CARE TIPS
- Do not neglect you body – tomorrow is too late to start taking care of your body. You need to start eating right and execrcising now. You will not only feel good, you will find all that extra energy to keep up with your little one
- Do not neglect your mental well-being – step out with your friends for a cup of jo or that occasional glass of wine, go shopping – stay on trend, and just basically do everything you did before becoming a mother; just a little less of it.
- Do not neglect your relationship – make time for your husband, he knows best what you’re going through. Two words. DATE NIGHT. Keep the connection strong.
- Do the things you love to do. Get a new hair cut, make time for a spa once in a while, watch your favourite TV show, just anything that helps you unwind.
Try small things that makes you feel good and that’s your ME time. A happy mind, body and relationship makes a happy mommy. It doesn’t make you selfish, it makes you a survivor. The only way to come up is by not letting yourself drown. After all, why shouldn’t moms have all the fun !
